What Makes English Culture So Interesting To Study?

As American's our fascination with the Monarch of the United Kingdom dates back hundreds of years. Although as the United Kingdom’s royal family has begun to play a much larger role in U.S. headlines, it is only natural that our infatuation has grown. With this benign said, have you ever considered the Royal Families impact on the culture of the United Kingdom as a whole? If so, you are in luck. This blog will take a deeper look at the culture present in the United Kingdom. Sense the English culture is considered to be the most prominent culture within the United Kingdom, that will be our main focus for the sake of this Blog.

While it was the United States Founding Fathers intention to separate the culture of the United States from that of the United Kingdom, I truly believe that is where a lot of America's infatuation with their way of life comes from. In many regards the United Kingdom is very similar to that of America’s, while simultaneously being vastly different. For example, both cultures' primary language is English, although we both have different dialects and many words hold different meanings in each of their respective cultures. By being able to better understand the culture in the United Kingdom, we can be more accepting and open minded when we encounter these cultural customs throughout our lives.

Like any culture, there are countless components that make up British culture. When initially thinking about their culture I think about how the United Kingdom is geographically much smaller than the United States. This has quite a large impact on their culture according to the this article published by Kingston University in 2022. “The weather in the UK, although unpredictable, is rarely extreme. Even though it is known for raining most days of the year, the UK does experience distinguishable seasons. It has also been said that you can experience all four seasons in just one day”. While weather serves as an impact on their culture, there are surely more geographical impacts throughout the United Kingdom. The largest Geographical Impact would be the different lifestyles that their citizens live in the country versus those that live in the cities claims an article in the Britannica. This is a very large component that plays into their everyday culture, that I am very excited for us to explore, among so many other things, as this blog evolves.

Now, before we start our huge deep dive into United Kingdom culture, I think it is very important for us to outline some expectations. The first expectation I have for myself and my readers is to be unbiased. Right now we may think that we know a lot about British culture, but by accepting that we are embarking on this journey to learn new things, we all keep an open mind. Secondly, I would like to not that we are not here to place judgment or critique this culture. This blog is intended to better understand those we share our planet with. Not to spread hate. I promise to always partake in these rules myself and provide you with the most adequate and factual information available to me.

Have a great day, and we will chat soon!

Xoxo,

Lil
